What is an Alano Club?

The South Island Alano Club is a gathering place for individuals on the road to recovery from addictive substances (drugs, alcohol, etc) or behavior problems (gambling, shopping, eating, etc). It is a community grounded in connection, mutual support, and shared experience. It's a safe and welcoming environment where people can come together not only for meetings, but also to build lasting friendships, find encouragement during difficult times, and celebrate the everyday victories of recovery. At its heart, the Club is about belonging—offering a space where no one has to walk the road to recovery alone.

Our Mission

To provide a facility and an environment conducive to physical, mental, and spiritual renewal; where those seeking recovery from addictive substances and behavior problems can gather to share a message of experience, strength and hope.

"The opposite of addiction

is not sobriety, it's connection."

Johann Hari

Why does this matter?

Because recovery thrives in connection. When we’re part of a recovery community, we stay grounded, supported, and reminded that we’re not alone. Isolation can be dangerous—when we’re alone, we’re often in bad company.

That’s why giving back is essential. Sharing the experience, strength, and hope we've been so freely given not only helps others—it helps us grow.

Healing takes a village. And together, we keep each other strong.

We offer a safe and welcoming space for individuals in recovery, their families, and the broader recovery community.

Our facility provides:

  • Regular meeting space for 12-step and other recovery groups

  • A supportive environment for Step work and personal growth

  • Clean and sober social activities for individuals and families in recovery

We believe recovery thrives in community—and no one should have to walk that road alone.
