Privacy Statement – South Island Alano Club

 

The South Island Alano Club collects, stores, and uses personal contact information in accordance with applicable privacy laws and the Societies Act of British Columbia.

As required by the Act, we maintain a confidential Registry of Members containing basic contact information. This information is used solely for the legitimate business of the Society — such as sending notices, meeting documents, and updates relevant to your membership, in alignment with our Constitution and Bylaws.

We do not share your personal information with outside parties, unless:

  • Required by law

  • Permitted by our Bylaws

  • You have given explicit consent

 

If you believe your personal information is incorrect or has been misused, please notify the Society’s Privacy Officer in writing by contacting the Board of Directors at the club’s official mailing address.

South Island Alano Club – Data Collection & Consent

 

By submitting this application, I understand and agree that the South Island Alano Club will collect, retain, and use the personal information I provide in accordance with the Societies Act of British Columbia and any other applicable laws and regulations.

This information may be used to:

  • Maintain membership records as required by law

  • Keep me informed about the business and activities of the Society

  • Carry out the general operations of the Society as they relate to my membership

 

I understand it is my responsibility to ensure that my personal information on file is accurate and up to date.

 

I also agree to abide by the Society’s bylaws, policies, and any other applicable requirements as they may change from time to time.

South Island Alano Club – Code of Conduct Policy

 

Purpose of this Policy

The South Island Alano Club is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for all members, guests, and visitors. This policy outlines the expectations for behavior on Club premises and the actions that may be taken if those expectations are not met.

Respect and Safety

All individuals on Club property are expected to treat one another — and the Club itself — with courtesy, respect, and care. Maintaining a safe, supportive atmosphere is essential to recovery and community well-being.

Prohibited Conduct

The following behaviors are strictly prohibited on Club property and may result in temporary or permanent removal, suspension of membership, or legal action where appropriate:

  • Violence or Aggression: Physically striking, pushing, or threatening another person, regardless of provocation.

  • Sexual Harassment: Any verbal, physical, or visual behavior of a sexual nature that makes others uncomfortable or unsafe.

  • Verbal Abuse: Threatening language, intimidation, shouting, or degrading remarks directed at individuals or groups.

  • Weapons: Possession of any weapon on Club property.

  • Trespassing or Loitering: Being on Club premises when the Club is closed or remaining after being asked to leave by Club staff or representatives.

  • Drugs or Alcohol: Possession or use of substances is not permitted at any time.

  • Inappropriate Dress: Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times.

  • Panhandling: Asking others for money, goods, or handouts is not allowed.

  • Unauthorized Solicitation: Promoting or conducting business of any kind is not permitted on Club grounds.

  • Smoking: Smoking or vaping is prohibited on Club property, except in designated areas at least nine (9) metres from any door, window, or air intake.

 

Additional Guidelines

While the Club does not strictly prohibit the use of strong language, we ask all guests to be mindful and respectful, and to avoid excessive profanity or vulgarity that may make others feel uncomfortable.

 

Enforcement

The Club’s staff and Board of Directors reserve the right to ask anyone to leave the premises if their behavior is disruptive to the health, safety, sobriety, or comfort of others. Continued or serious violations may result in suspension or termination of membership.

The South Island Alano Club maintains a strong partnership with local law enforcement and will enforce trespassing laws for individuals who do not comply with this Code of Conduct or the Club’s Harassment Policy.

Complaints Process

If you believe someone is violating the Code of Conduct or No Harassment Policy, you are encouraged to submit a formal written complaint in a timely manner to the Club Office.

All complaints will be reviewed and addressed by the Board of Directors, who will determine appropriate action based on the severity and frequency of the behavior.

Possible outcomes may include:

  • A verbal warning

  • Temporary or permanent suspension from the Club

  • In serious cases, referral to law enforcement and potential criminal prosecution

 

All complaints will be investigated thoroughly and respectfully. Decisions made by the Board of Directors are final following a full and fair review.

Membership (as per SIAC bylaws)

Membership status defined
2.1 - A member in good standing shall be defined as one who supports recovery from alcoholism or addiction and has paid dues.

Duties of Members
2.2 - Every member must uphold the constitution of the Society and must comply with these Bylaws. 

Member not in good standing
2.4 - A member is not in good standing if the member fails to pay the membership dues, if any. The member is not in good standing for so long as those dues remain unpaid.

Member not in good standing may not vote 

Termination of membership
2.6 - A person’s membership in the Society is terminated if the person is not in good standing for 3 consecutive months or the person provides a written request for cancellation of their membership.
